I wrote some progress on my 0.3 release on my previous blog. But since then i bumped spec kismet and it’s ready for build.  I actually tried the llvm package and excluded ocaml package for llvm spec file. However, i failed. Llvm does not run without ocaml package and it’s giving me tons of errors that I don’t know about. As well as dietlibc, it still won’t run on arm architecture. I would love to still keep working on packages on my free time, I gotta admit it’s not that bad, I still have a lot to learn so i can be an expert like Paul and help out the community with those failed packages:) I got a lot more to learn but I’m definitely going to keep trying.

I can’t get into the fedora arm website right now so I can’t take screenshots but…

This is not the last time you’ll be seeing me blogging me and building packages!

After release 0.2 I started working on a package called kismet. Kismet is a wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system.  Even though this package wasn’t on the list of packages that Paul told us to do, i still did it, because we were basically done the list anyway, and I needed to do more packages so I decided to just look for one on my own and i stumbled on this.

The problem with kismet was that it couldn’t find the package “dietlibc” this package is a dependency package for kismet. However, this package isn’t built. The problem with this package is that “unknown architecture. fix Makefile”  i tried to fix the spec file by adding the arm architecture but I checked the spec file and ARM is already in it. So, i tried over and over again to fix dietlibc but it kept giving me the same error still. I moved on and tried to exclude dietlibc in kismet spec file, ran it on koji and it worked. I still have to ask Paul to tag and build kismet for me.

I was looking through other packages such as: gnome-applets and why

gnome-applets giving me errors about “can’t find scrollkeeper-config”. I don’t really know how to fix it. so I researched if there’s a package for scrollkeeper on fedora, and there is, however i cant find the SRPM for it. Apparently, rarian is a replacement for scrollkeeper. I wanted to change the spec file and change it into rarian instead of scrollkeeper. But fedora-arm koji server is down.

The package why 2.23-2 is having a lot of dependency issues:

I tried to build two of those packages “ocaml” and “prelink” those two packages does not build on ARM-KOJI. Ocaml comprises two batch compilers and interactive top level system, parsing tool, a debugger, documentation generator, and library. and majority of why’s package is based on ocaml. That’s a problem…

Another package that i wanted to work on was llvm. It can’t find the package “ocaml-ocamldoc” and that’s part of the “ocaml” package, therefore, i don’t think it could build with it. I wanted to exclude it and try it but the server is down.

I don’t think this will be my final release unless the server comes back on before friday. I want to keep working on it and finish my packages so i can actually have screenshots of the my 0.3 release.

I’ve actually been working on the same packages, and today Paul is pushing through the other packages that I been waiting for. And after that I can start pushing through other ones for ARM. From my previous posts, I’ve actually explained in detail the process of how i pushed the tasks through arm koji and the errors that I had to deal with it. It took a lot of work to actually get the hang of how this stuff works. After release 0.1, I actually have a better understanding of how to build packages, and now release 0.2 I have packages that i actually completed.

-completed ScientificPython
-I figured out that open mpi and valgrind is not compatible with ARM
-completed PSTOEDIT
-built package update (totem totem-pl-parser-2.30.3-1 and gstreamer 0.10.30)
-completed netcdf-devel

Totem Spec File:

Scummvm-tools update:

scummvm-tools-1.2.0-1.fc13.armv5tel, I actually finished all the dependancy package issues. On my previous blog I got ScientificPython to work, and I asked Paul to build it. ScientificPython needs to be a built package for ARM in order for Scummvm to build for ARM too. Still waiting for Paul to finish that as soon as that’s done, I’m really hoping I could finish Scummvm tools package! *crosses finger*

For now, I’m just waiting… So I can actually finish totem, and scummvm tools. I can’t really do much since all my packages are tasks, Paul or Chris needs to tag them so it can be a built package for ARM. Hopefully I can get to that soon. While I’m waiting, I plan on taking on other packages.

RPM build errors:

At first I couldn’t figure out what the problem is, but I kept reading the errors, and found out that theres something wrong with the moving the directory mpipython because it can’t find it. So i went into the spec file and removed move the directory command and also took out the macro underneath %files.I uploaded it on koji-arm and it worked:)

Note: I don’t exactly know how to comment out a macro, i’ts suppose to be %% but it doesn’t work, so i ended up just deleting it.

Now im just waiting for Chris or Paul to tag this build so I can build scummum.

As for my other build, its a package called pstoedit. And i noticed it in the list of failed packages, under tetex-tex4ht. Tetex-tex4ht package is already built by paul, but the dependancy pstoedit failed. So i checked it out and i built it. The error was that it needed the package libEMF. I excluded the package for libEMF in pstoedit spec file and uploaded it on fedora arm koji, and the task built:) For libEMF, ill try to build it as well, if it works i’ll try to include it in pstoedit spec and see if it will built with libEMF instead of excluding it.

This little code helped me build the package netcdf-4.1.1. This package needed valgrind for its build requires. And i need this package to build for Scientific Python, which then requires openmpi. This morning, I tried to exclude valgrind and numactl, but openmpi still wouldn’t work. So Chris told me to just exclude it as well.

As for netcdf, I asked Paul to tag it for me, so it can be built and i can use it to build Scientific Python, of course I don’t exactly know if it will build properly if i exclude openmpi. Let’s just hope it does. Or else back to square one. Just waiting on the task to finish build and next I’ll be trying to build Scientific python.

Okay, so far, we’ve actually made individual progress on building packages. I know there’s a lot things that we still need to finish, because every package needs another package in order for it to build. So once one package is done it will basically build a whole bunch of other packages. The only trouble is that we can’t get those dependency packages to build. I’ve actually tried to find a different package instead of mutter. Its called “libkate”, libkate package needs “valgrind” and valgrind needs openmpi which a failed build. I decided to research valgrind and this package has not been built. I tried to build it and i get an error “BuildError: No matching arches were found”,  WHAAA?  I still need to get help on how to fix that problem. There has been many attempts to build packages, besides that, there is definitely more work that needs to be done, that’s all for now.

Mutter-devel package is one of the dependencies needed for my gnome-shell package. I didn’t notice that Paul had already tried to build this package, therefore, i tried to do it. Of course i failed, and Paul notified us that it could be the builders that’s causing the problems. I’ll ask for more information as to how I can help fix this problem so i can get this package done:) if not, onto the next one!
